Question 1

What is Antiguanite?

Accepted Answer

Antiguanite is a rare petrified coral, millions of years old, from the geological Antigua Formation. Goldsmitty holds exclusive rights to it and processes, grinds and polishes the fossil coral in-house into patterned gemstones set in gold and silver. It is designed, crafted and sold nowhere else in the world.

Question 2

Can I commission a custom piece?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Commission work is a core part of the studio. Bring an idea, a sketch, a stone or an heirloom to be reworked. The design is developed with you, sculpted in wax, cast in 14k or 18k gold and hand-finished on the premises.

Question 3

How long does a custom commission take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the complexity of the design and the stones involved. Simple settings can be turned around quickly, while sculpted one-of-a-kind pieces take longer. Send an enquiry with your idea and a realistic timeline will be confirmed with you.

Question 4

Do you repair jewellery bought elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Repairs, re-sizing, stone re-setting, chain and clasp work, polishing and restoration are all handled in the workshop, including pieces not originally made here.

Question 5

Which metals and gemstones do you work with?

Accepted Answer

Original designs are cast in 14 karat and 18 karat gold, with sterling silver used for selected pieces. Gemstones include Antiguanite, Imperial Topaz, Black Opal, Bicolour Tourmaline, Tanzanite and Tahitian black pearls.

Question 6

Where are you located and can I visit the workshop?

Accepted Answer

Goldsmitty is at Redcliffe Quay on Redcliffe Street in St John's, Antigua — a short walk from the cruise pier and the city centre. All craftsmanship happens on site, so visitors can see the work being made. Call ahead on +1 268 462 4601 if you are coming for a commission consultation.
